Environmental Health Specialist

BRAZOS COUNTY is seeking an experienced Environmental Health Specialist to join our team. This is a dynamic and challenging role that requires strong analytical and communication skills.
Job SummaryThe Environmental Health Specialist will be responsible for conducting inspections of food service establishments, on-site sewage facilities, daycare centers, foster homes, and pools to ensure compliance with state and local regulations.
Responsibilities- Conduct regular inspections of food service establishments, including reviewing construction and remodeling plans, and initiating corrective actions as needed.
- Teach food handler's classes and provide education to the public on food safety practices.
- Investigate complaints related to foodborne illnesses and initiate corrective actions.
- Review and inspect plans for new and existing on-site sewage facilities to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Investigate complaints related to on-site sewage facilities and initiate corrective actions.
- Perform routine inspections of daycare centers and foster homes to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Inspect pools to ensure compliance with state requirements.
- Participate in vector surveillance programs to identify potential health hazards.
- Respond to environmental and public health complaints in a timely and professional manner.
To be successful in this role, you must have a Bachelor's degree with at least 30 hours in basic or applied science from an accredited college or university. You must also be registered as a Sanitarian in the State of Texas and hold a valid Texas Driver's License.
A Pesticide Non-Commercial Applicator License with the Texas Department of Agriculture, a Certified Pool Operator, and a Certified Pool Inspector Certification may be required depending on the assignment.
Working ConditionsThis position requires frequent travel and fieldwork, and occasional exposure to extreme weather conditions. The work environment is typically moderate, with possible exposure to hazardous materials and diseases.
We offer a competitive salary range of $65,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience, plus benefits and opportunities for professional growth and development.
