Race Car Gearbox Technician

As a Race Car Gearbox Technician, you will be responsible for the meticulous assembly and adjustment of sub-assembled components related to high-performance race cars. Your primary focus will be on the gearbox assembly, which includes differentials, gearbox ratio clusters, gears, and all associated gearbox elements.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Disassembling, cleaning, inspecting, and conducting non-destructive testing of components.
- Maintaining precise records of component changes and mileage, including event details for post-event evaluations.
- Ensuring all race car components are securely fastened and properly assembled.
- Collaborating with crew chiefs, sub-assembly leaders, race engineers, and competition directors to communicate progress.
- Preparing and loading all necessary tools, options, and spare parts onto transporters for events.
- Meeting strict deadlines for race car preparation while ensuring high-quality standards.
- Safeguarding and properly utilizing all company property issued during employment, including uniforms, tools, and electronic devices.
- Traveling with the team to races and tests to ensure optimal racecar performance.
- Engaging in additional sub-assembly tasks, including uprights, driveshafts, brakes, and wheel guns.
- Assisting with race car maintenance and upkeep during events.
- Maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
- Representing the team and its sponsors professionally both on and off the track.
- Traveling to race and/or test events as required.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A minimum of 3 years of experience as a mechanic or subassembly team member in IndyCar, Sports Car, or F1 series racing, with consideration for other racing backgrounds.
- Specific experience with Xtrac gearboxes and related components.
- A high school diploma or equivalent, with basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills.
- Proficiency in computer skills and competency.
- A deep understanding of race car mechanical components, electronics, and structural frameworks.
- Certification in Magnaflux & Zyglo non-destructive testing (if not already possessed).
- The ability to focus on detailed tasks for extended periods.
- Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments.
- Hands-on experience with tools such as lathes, mills, drill presses, and band saws.
- The capability to operate hand tools effectively.
- The ability to lift 20 lbs. from ground level and to stand, bend, or stoop for prolonged periods.
