Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Nurse Specialist to join our team at Elgin ISD. As a key member of our school health services team, you will play a vital role in promoting the health and well-being of our students.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct care to students using professional assessment skills, individualized healthcare plans, and established school health protocols.
  • Assess student problems, communicate with parents, and ensure appropriate referrals and follow-up as needed.
  • Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans (IHPs) and evaluate outcomes of skilled and direct nursing care and procedures for medically fragile students.
  • Collaborate with campus principal and other staff to ensure a healthy school environment and meet the health needs of the general school population and those students with identified health conditions.
  • Participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee (ARD) meetings and develop Individual Health Plans (IHPs).
  • Work with district personnel to implement IEP goals and services.
  • Advise campus administration in crisis or emergency situations and participate in assessment and reporting of suspected child abuse.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required, including clinic records and accurate and confidential student health records.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program.
  • Valid registered nurse license (RN) or licensed vocational nurse license (LVN) from the Texas Board of Nursing.
  • Current automatic external defibrillator (AED) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificates.
  • Knowledge of health appraisal to identify student health defects, ability to implement policies and procedures, and knowledge of basic first aid.
  • Proficient keyboarding and file maintenance skills, ability to write routine reports and correspondence, and strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Working Conditions

This position requires frequent standing, sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting. The employee may be exposed to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases.
