Job Summary

The Registered Sleep Lab Technologist at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for conducting sleep testing procedures and ensuring patient safety and comfort. They play a vital role in monitoring patient activity and maintaining quality recordings, adhering to AASM guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform all procedures that electrographically record sleep and its associated phenomena, including the application of patient monitoring devices and the calibrations of recording instruments in accordance with established AASM guidelines.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for patients requiring this diagnostic modality.
  • Serve as a resource to non-credentialed PSGTs.
  • Perform initial and ongoing patient assessment to assure appropriate understanding and compliance with testing procedures, patient safety, and ability of patient to effectively participate in the testing.
  • Continuously monitor patient activity and maintains quality recordings through recognition and correction of artifactual data, while remaining vigilant of patient safety and comfort.
  • Score polysomnogram and computer generated records, based on AASM, Rechtshaffer and Kales scoring criteria.
  • Maintain records to provide complete clinical information and to assure accurate patient charging. Comply with AASM guidelines of documentation, and provide the physician with a copy of the results.
  • Assure that equipment and supplies are available to assure quality patient care. Maintain inventories, make copies, and update reference manuals as needed.
  • Perform daily maintenance and calibration on all sleep testing equipment. Serve as a resource person for other departments.
  • Assist in the development and presentation of educational lectures, conferences, and promotional activities.
  • Act as point of contact for issues pertaining to sleep testing and diagnostic studies.
  • Collect and analyze Performance Improvement data, including appointment delay times.
  • Review insurance eligibility.
Requirements
  • Education: High School Diploma
  • Licenses and Certifications: RPSGT - Registered Polysomnographer Technologist, RRT-SDS - required for RRT in this job, CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation, ACLS - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support
  • Work Experience: Experience in sleep testing and diagnostic studies
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Proficiency in providing care to a patient population, including adolescents, adults, and geriatrics; ability to organize and prioritize departmental responsibilities to optimize quality patient care; ability to recommend changes in therapeutic modalities to promote the most positive outcome; ability to assist with planning and implementing strategies that enhance sleep center certification by the AASM
