Role Purpose
The primary objective of this role is to supervise, deliver, and coordinate nursing care in alignment with facility policies and procedures while assessing residents' care requirements and taking necessary actions. The Licensed Practical Nurse will provide care for residents who are ill, injured, or recovering within the facility. This position may operate under the guidance of a Registered Nurse.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None; may oversee the activities of CNAs, PCAs, and/or RAs during the shift.
Key Responsibilities
- Administers medications, accurately documenting times and dosages on residents' charts.
- Monitors residents, documenting and reporting any changes in their conditions, including adverse reactions to medications or treatments, and taking appropriate actions.
- Responds to residents' calls and assesses how to assist them effectively.
- Measures and records vital signs such as height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.
- Provides fundamental resident care or treatments, including taking temperatures, measuring blood pressures, dressing wounds, treating bedsores, administering enemas, and performing catheterizations.
- Collaborates with a healthcare team to assess resident needs, plan and adjust care, and implement interventions.
- Evaluates the outcomes of nursing interventions, consulting with other healthcare team members.
- Assembles and utilizes equipment such as catheters and oxygen supplies.
- Ensures resident safety through strict adherence to protocols, policies, and procedures, maintaining open communication with residents, supervisors, and colleagues, and carefully observing residents, equipment, and environmental conditions.

Physical Demands and Environment

- Ability to stand, traverse, ascend/descend stairs, and move/transport carts weighing over 100 pounds, as well as transport tools and equipment.
- Capable of moving residents as necessary, stretching, bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, crouching, kneeling, and balancing to access all resident body parts, observe skin color, and detect vital signs and equipment alarms/messages.
- Ability to operate a computer, read, remain stationary, and converse with others.
- Legibly complete forms and perform data entry. Ability to remain stationary for extended periods.
- Ability to converse with others, write legibly, read, and comprehend written and verbal information.
- Lift and carry up to 35 pounds frequently; up to 75 pounds occasionally.
- Stand and walk frequently, sit for extended periods; perform simple grasping and fine hand manipulation; possess near and far vision; hear conversations; and speak clearly.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: An Associate's degree in Nursing or equivalent is required.
Experience: Prior experience performing the essential functions of this position is preferred.
Certification/License: A Florida Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in good standing is required. Candidates must achieve and maintain CPR certification within 90 days of hire. Compliance with state background check standards is required as a condition of continued employment in accordance with Florida Statutes Chapters 435 and Florida Administrative Code 59A.
