Job Summary

The Town of Leland is seeking a highly skilled Transportation Planner to join our team. As a key member of our planning department, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our community's transportation infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Transportation Planning and Project Management: Develop and implement transportation plans and projects that promote multimodal transportation, reduce congestion, and enhance the overall quality of life for our residents.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with various stakeholders, including town officials, regional planning organizations, and community groups, to ensure that transportation plans and projects align with the town's vision and goals.
  • Grant Writing and Administration: Research and secure funding opportunities to support transportation projects and initiatives, and manage grant applications and reporting.
  • Transportation Design and Engineering: Collaborate with engineers and designers to develop transportation plans and projects that meet the town's needs and comply with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Public Outreach and Engagement: Develop and implement public outreach and engagement strategies to educate residents and stakeholders about transportation plans and projects.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in urban and regional planning, transportation planning, civil engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 6+ years of experience in transportation planning, with a focus on multimodal transportation and project management.
  • Skills: Strong knowledge of transportation planning principles, practices, and regulations; excellent communication and project management skills; ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
  • AICP Certification: Possession of American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification or ability to obtain within 1 year of hire.
  • Driver's License: Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina.
Physical Requirements

This position requires frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force. The work environment is generally moderately noisy, and the employee may be required to work in outdoor weather conditions.
