Job Title: IT Security Specialist III

Cherokee Federal is seeking a highly skilled IT Security Specialist III to join our team. As an IT Security Specialist III, you will play a critical role in analyzing information security systems and applications to recommend and develop security measures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyze information security systems and applications to identify vulnerabilities and risks.
  • Recommend and develop security measures to protect information assets against unauthorized access, modification, or loss.
  • Implement and maintain security controls, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Monitor and respond to security incidents, conducting investigations and implementing remediation actions as necessary.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate security requirements into system design and development processes.
  • Stay informed about emerging threats and security technologies, providing recommendations for improving the organization's security posture.
  • Conduct security assessments and audits to evaluate the effectiveness of existing security controls and identify areas for improvement.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior staff members, assisting with skill development and knowledge transfer.
  • Prepare and present reports and updates on information security status and activities to stakeholders and senior management.
  • Participate in incident response exercises and security awareness training initiatives.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) in information technology, computer science, or a related field is required.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in information security, preferably in a federal agency setting.
  • Strong understanding of information security principles, practices, and technologies.
  • Experience with security assessment tools and techniques, including vulnerability scanning and penetration testing.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulations and standards, such as NIST, FISMA, and HIPAA.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex security issues and develop effective solutions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Previous experience leading or directing the work of others is desirable.
  • Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or CEH are preferred.
