Job Title: Afterschool Counselor

At the YMCA of Metro Atlanta, we are seeking a dedicated and passionate Afterschool Counselor to join our team. As a key member of our education and youth development team, you will play a vital role in creating a safe and engaging environment for elementary age children.

Job Summary:

The Afterschool Counselor will be responsible for leading assigned groups in various planned activities, supporting the overall goals of the program, and ensuring the well-being and development of our young participants. Responsibilities:
  • Lead assigned groups in various planned activities, including literacy and STEAM-infused learning, sports, and arts and crafts.
  • Support the overall goals of the program, including promoting academic success, social-emotional learning, and character development.
  • Ensure the well-being and safety of our young participants, including supervising them at all times and responding to their needs.
  • Collaborate with the Afterschool Program Director and Site Director to plan and implement program activities, including virtual learning assignments and special events.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and other stakeholders to ensure a positive and supportive environment for our children.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance your skills and knowledge in education and youth development.
Requirements:
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must possess a minimum credential that meets Bright from the Start requirements and a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Have prior experience working with school-age children in a group setting, preferably in a licensed setting.
  • Have current evidence of successful completion of biennial training in CPR/First Aid.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as internet technology platforms such as Google Classroom and Zoom.
  • Must receive a cleared GCIC/NCIC and a cleared Fingerprint check through Bright From the Start before working.
