Role Overview:
The Tax Information Reporting (TIR) division is tasked with comprehensive client tax operations, including the validation of tax certifications, withholding, and information reporting in accordance with the Internal Revenue Service, Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), and Common Reporting Standard (CRS) frameworks. This role will lead and manage the centralized TIR team within Citi's Chief Operating Office, driving the strategic agenda for Tax Information Reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee a team of over 30 tax information reporting professionals across multiple Citi Service Centers globally.
- Manage tax information reporting processes for products across Citi's core businesses, with a primary focus on U.S. Personal Banking.
- Act as a recognized subject matter expert, designing efficient processes and influencing necessary organizational changes to ensure compliance.
- Develop and implement policies and controls to maintain compliance with U.S. Information Reporting and FATCA/CRS requirements.
- Provide timely feedback and reporting to stakeholders, co-chairing service delivery and tax risk forums.
- Drive process reviews and reengineering initiatives to enhance efficiency and control frameworks.
- Support audit interactions with the IRS and Internal Audit, including special audits.
- Lead technology strategy initiatives to support Tax Information Reporting requirements.
- Manage risk and control environments, including control design and issue resolution.
- Promote employee engagement and talent management within the team.
- Engage with senior business partners on new business proposals and tax guidance related to Tax Information Reporting.
- Adhere to budgetary and headcount requirements while maintaining productivity goals.
Qualifications:
- Over 10 years of leadership experience in U.S. tax information reporting and 12+ years in financial services.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. tax information reporting rules and Qualified Intermediary IRS regime.
- Familiarity with IRS Forms W-9, W-8, 1098, 1099 series, and 1042-S.
- Understanding of U.S. Income Sourcing rules and FATCA regulations.
- Excellent relationship management and communication skills for stakeholder engagement.
- Proven ability in process design, re-engineering, and automation.
- Experience in project management and leading organizational transitions.
- Proficient in standard desktop technology and advanced Office skills.
- Experience managing senior-level audit interactions and complex tax advisory inquiries.
- Ability to develop high-performing teams and drive employee engagement.
