We are seeking a highly skilled Payload Electronics Design Engineer to join our team at Scout Space. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in designing, developing, manufacturing, assembling, integrating, testing, and operating advanced electro-optical payloads.

About the Role:

As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the successful integration and performance of electrical components within space systems. Your primary focus will be on developing payload electronics architecture, designing PCBs for power and signal distribution within a space environment, managing fabrication, assembly, and bill of materials for manufacturing, performing thermal and radiation analysis of board-level components, implementing low-level board integration and test plans, and generating documentation to support manufacturing, assembly, integration, and test.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop payload electronics architecture to ensure seamless integration with other system components
  • Design printed circuit boards (PCBs) for power and signal distribution, taking into account the unique challenges of a space environment
  • Manage the fabrication, assembly, and bill of materials for manufacturing, ensuring timely delivery and quality control
  • Perform thermal and radiation analysis of board-level components to identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies
  • Implement low-level board integration and test plans to validate the performance of electrical components
  • Generate detailed documentation to support manufacturing, assembly, integration, and test, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations
Requirements:
  • Must be eligible to hold a security clearance
  • Proven experience in designing boards that have flown in space, with a strong understanding of the associated challenges and requirements
  • Strong knowledge of techniques for avoiding and mitigating single event upsets and latchups, as well as radiation-hardened design principles
  • Understanding of power and thermal constraints within hosted payloads, including the ability to design and optimize electrical architectures for efficient power management
  • Previous experience in environmental test plan development and implementation, with a focus on ensuring the reliability and durability of electronic components
  • Familiarity with embedded programming, including driver and FPGA development, and the ability to integrate software and hardware components seamlessly
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Background in camera systems and optical testing, with a strong understanding of image processing and analysis
  • Strong understanding of radiation environments for multiple orbits, including the effects of radiation on electronic components and the development of mitigation strategies
  • Advanced expertise in embedded programming, including driver and FPGA development, and the ability to design and implement complex software-hardware interfaces
  • Experience designing and programming motion control systems, with a focus on precision positioning and stabilization
