Job Title: Patient Care Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Patient Care Technician to join our team at the UI Heart and Vascular Center. As a key member of our Cardiovascular Pre- and Post-Recovery Unit (CPRU), you will work closely with our Physician, Nursing, and Imaging Technologist staff to provide exceptional patient care and support.

Job Summary:

The Patient Care Technician will assist in multiple types of patient care and related tasks, optimizing efficiency primarily in the Cardiovascular Procedure Recovery Unit (CPRU). This role may also involve floating to our procedural labs based on need.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist with lab preparation, including stocking supplies and setup.
  • Manage daily deliveries of store items to the procedural labs, ensuring timely receipt and notification of backordered items.
  • Perform quality controls on glucometers and maintain supplies to comply with regulatory guidelines.
  • Assist with checking outdated supplies and completing requisitions and other forms as directed.
  • Share responsibility for preparation, proper use, and care of equipment and supplies, as well as maintaining the neatness and cleanliness of the lab.
  • Assist with procedural preparation, including surgical clipping of skin areas.
  • Set up and connect noninvasive hemodynamic monitoring equipment to patients.
  • Report pertinent patient information and incidents to the person in charge.
  • Assist with answering call lights and telephones.
  • Transport patients by bed, cart, or wheelchair between recovery units, procedural labs, and inpatient units.
  • Assist with lab turnover cleaning duties as delegated.
  • Perform basic CPR as required.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others verbally, electronically, and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Ability to provide care with regard to patient condition and age.
  • Knowledge of principles of sanitation and health hazards.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, instruments, and supplies.
  • Ability to collect patient data and maintain accurate records.
  • Knowledge of keyboarding and computer data entry skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certification as a Nursing Assistant is preferred.
  • Direct patient-care experience.
  • Experience working in a healthcare environment.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Experience providing customer service relations.
  • Strong organizational skills.
