We are seeking a highly skilled Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist to join our team at the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration. As a key member of our Diagnostic Imaging Service, you will be responsible for performing diagnostic radiology procedures, including computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans.
Responsibilities- Perform diagnostic radiology procedures, including CT and MRI scans, under the general direction of the Lead Technologist or Chief Technologist of Radiology.
- Utilize digital equipment to perform diagnostic radiography procedures, requiring knowledge of human anatomy.
- Perform procedures as a team member with other technologists, including chest, extremities, spines, skull, sinus, abdominal studies, and other procedures that do not require the direct presence of a radiologist.
- Set up x-ray rooms, assure that supplies and equipment are present, and receive patients, explain procedures, position patients, and make exposures necessary for requested examinations.
- Capture computerized radiographs and digital radiographs, apply algorithms, configure images, and verify patient information before transmitting them to the picture archive system.
- Perform daily inspection and operation of CT and MRI scanners under the direction of the Lead Technologist or Chief Technologist of Radiology.
- Work independently to perform computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging procedures, including head, neck, spine, chest, abdomen, pelvis, and extremities, as well as MRA's and MR guided procedures.
- Establish IV access and administer IV contrast materials, observe patients for signs and symptoms of adverse contrast reactions, and initiate appropriate responses.
- Work with the Radiation Safety Officer and Radiologist to perform Quality Control (QC) testing and minimize patient dose.
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Certification: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or Mammography (M) duties performed independently.
- Education: Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE).
Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm with rotating weekend. This is subject to change based on the operational needs of the agency.
