Key Responsibilities
  • Direct Patient Care Activities: Develop and implement standards of care and unit functions in the clinical specialty, ensuring the highest level of clinical practice is maintained to deliver safe, effective, and appropriate patient care.
  • Unit Operations: Accountable for unit operations on a continuous 24/7 basis, ensuring seamless delivery of patient care services.
  • Staff Supervision and Development: Responsible for hiring, coaching, evaluating, and counseling employees, providing disciplinary action as appropriate, and mentoring staff in the acquisition of leadership skills.
  • Strategic Planning: Develops unit goals and objectives in alignment with the organization's mission and goals, collaborating with the management team in the strategic planning process to support organizational initiatives.
  • Patient Satisfaction: Evaluates patient satisfaction and implements improvement interventions as necessary, ensuring a positive patient experience.
  • Budget Management: Develops, monitors, and evaluates budgetary plans, administering and monitoring operating and capital budgets.
  • Performance Improvement: Fosters a performance improvement philosophy and practices, identifying, monitoring, and evaluating improvement processes and reporting outcomes.
  • Staffing and Resource Management: Develops a staffing plan for the annual budget, responsible for evaluating staffing needs and ensuring equitable use of resources, maintaining productivity measures.
  • Recruitment and Retention: Evaluates recruitment, retention, and recognition of staff, implementing improvement initiatives as indicated, monitoring vacancy, turnover, climate survey results, and nursing and service line sources for trends and issues.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Establishes, with medical director and other disciplines, appropriate interdisciplinary models of care for the unit(s).
  • Union and Non-Union Grievance Procedures: Represents management at the appropriate step of the union and non-union grievance procedures.
  • Compliance Responsibilities: Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 5 years job-related experience.
  • License: CT RN License.
  • Experience: Will require 4 or more years of recent and relevant experience in designated clinical area, evidence of ongoing education related to the field of experience.
  • Certifications: BLS (HCP) certification, ED: CEN preferred, ACLS, TNCC, and IV certification, Critical Care: ACLS certification, IV certification, M/S: ACLS certification, IV certification, MCH: BLS (HCP), NPR, IV certification, specialty certification preferred.
