**Position Overview**
Key Responsibilities:
Engineering Technician - Level IV:
- Handles complex assignments that require innovative solutions, utilizing established operational guidelines that may not fully apply. These tasks are often components of larger projects and are evaluated to avoid atypical design challenges.
- Engages in the development or assessment of designs by extracting and interpreting diverse engineering data, applying standard engineering methodologies to create, prepare, or suggest schematics, designs, specifications, electrical diagrams, and parts inventories.
- Conducts tests or experiments that necessitate the selection and modification of various critical testing equipment and procedures; prepares and operates machinery; documents data; and identifies and records issues of considerable complexity that may need higher-level resolution, analyzing data and compiling test reports.
- Implements methods provided by others for specific segments of research and development initiatives, constructing experimental or prototype models to fulfill engineering specifications; executing tests or experiments; making necessary redesigns; and documenting and assessing data while reporting findings.
Engineering Technician - Level VI:
- Develops designs and specifications for intricate equipment or systems (e.g., HVAC systems in commercial buildings or new electronic components like solid-state devices for instrumentation).
- Strategizes the methodology to address design challenges; proposes and endorses innovative design techniques; resolves design issues with contract personnel; and ensures design compatibility with other system components.
- Designs and organizes test setups and experiments to validate or invalidate the feasibility of preliminary designs.
- Plans and executes various experiments to innovate equipment or systems.
Qualifications:
Engineering Technician - Level IV:
Requires a Technical or Scientific Associate's degree. ALLOWABLE SUBSTITUTE: A High School diploma or GED and three (3) years of relevant recent experience in the field may replace the Associate's degree.
This three (3) years of experience is in addition to the required minimum of six (6) years to meet the overall experience requirements, totaling nine (9) years of experience.
Engineering Technician - Level VI:
- Education: Requires a Technical or Scientific Associate's degree. ALLOWABLE SUBSTITUTE: A High School diploma or GED and three (3) years of relevant recent experience in the field may replace the Associate's degree.
- These three (3) years of experience are in addition to the required minimum of ten (10) years to meet the overall experience requirements, totaling thirteen (13) years of experience.
Experience:
- At least six (6) years of relevant recent experience in a related position.
- Four (4) years of experience in the installation of hardware and/or equipment.
- One (1) year of experience in the design, preparation, and modification of engineering documents and drawings. Experience may overlap.
Engineering Technician - Level VI:
- At least ten (10) years of relevant recent experience in a related position.
- Eight (8) years of experience in the installation of hardware and/or equipment.
- Four (4) years of experience in the design, preparation, and modification of engineering documents and drawings. Experience may overlap.
