New York Blood Center is seeking a highly skilled Research Fellow to support a scientific team conducting groundbreaking research in hematology and blood disorders. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting independent research, developing and implementing technical protocols, analyzing data, and presenting findings to the laboratory.
Key Responsibilities
- Characterize pathogenesis factors in the Babesia parasite that allows the pathogen to manipulate host erythrocyte cells for its own benefit.
- Collect, interpret, and prepare experiment reports, modify protocols, plan experiments, and analyze outcomes.
- Process and analyze large amounts of data generated from lipidomic and proteomic assays.
- Perform statistical and graphical analysis of data, manipulate sophisticated equipment, and write peer-review articles for publication in scientific journals.
- Develop a good working relationship with other lab team members and lead junior research assistants/technicians/students.
- Acquire a thorough understanding of the present scientific literature relating to the research in the laboratory.
- Present research findings to other members of the laboratory.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Biology, Genetics, or a related field, with 2-3 years of relevant experience in at least two of the following areas:
- Basic molecular biology techniques, including molecular cloning, RNA isolation, and Northern blotting, PCR; recombinant protein expression; tissue culture procedures;
- Lipids and proteomic techniques, including lipid extraction and separation, along with conventional biochemistry techniques, including pulse-chase analysis, immunoprecipitation, and immunoblots;
- Analysis of large-scale metabolomic and proteomic data;
- Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture, mouse handling, flow cytometry, and RT-PCR analysis;
- Expertise with immunohistochemistry, histology, microscopy, small animal procedures, genetic mouse models, ELISA assays, and other molecular biology assays.
The proposed annual salary for this position is $81,008.00 to $91,532.00, depending on location and experience. New York Blood Center is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applications from diverse candidates.
