Position Overview: The School Nurse is responsible for the comprehensive application of the nursing process and the provision of care to students within an educational environment. This role may include supervisory responsibilities within contracted services, ensuring that all care aligns with Amergis Healthcare's standards, policies, and physician directives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Employs the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the health needs of students.
- Demonstrates skilled nursing care in accordance with established orders and Individualized Health Plans (IHP).
- Administers treatments, interventions, and medications based on prioritized needs as outlined in the IHP.
- Monitors and documents the effectiveness of care provided, ensuring accurate health records.
- Facilitates coordination of services among the school, local health agencies, and community resources to address student needs.
- Communicates effectively with school personnel regarding the student’s health care plan and IHP.
- Notifies relevant parties, including the District School Nurse, Amergis Supervisor, parents, and physicians, about significant changes in student health status.
Collaboration and Safety:
Works in partnership with educational staff and health agencies to design and implement health care strategies that ensure student safety and well-being. Adheres to all policies and regulations set forth by Amergis Healthcare and the school district.
Professional Standards:
Maintains compliance with the Nurse Practice Act, Standards of Nursing Practice, and relevant federal and state laws, including educational codes and patient rights.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program (RN, LPN, or LVN).
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse in the applicable state.
- Preferred: At least one year of professional nursing experience.
- Commitment to maintaining professional standards and engaging in ongoing skill development.
- Current CPR certification and health clearance as required.
- Strong communication skills, with proficiency in English preferred.
- Computer literacy is essential.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
