Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Environmental Services Technician to join our team at Geisinger Health System. As an Environmental Services Technician, you will play a critical role in maintaining a clean and safe environment for our patients, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clean and disinfect patient rooms, surgical suites, clinical areas, office spaces, corridors, and stairwells to ensure a high level of cleanliness and safety.
  • Handle various waste streams, including municipal waste, recyclable waste, pharmaceutical waste, biohazardous waste, chemotherapeutic waste, and sharps, in accordance with established protocols.
  • Wear standard personal protective equipment and adhere to posted isolation precautions when entering isolation rooms.
  • Follow procedures for the proper use of hospital-approved chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
  • Report identified facility repairs as directed or observed, according to current established policy or procedure.
  • Utilize mobile technology to ensure compliance with bed tracking procedures and other environmental services functions that are performed daily.
  • Operate chemclave and autoclave for red bag waste in conjunction with regulatory requirements and properly package red bag waste for shipment when chemclave and autoclave technology is not available.
  • Clean and disinfect all equipment before entry into the OR suite.
  • Be familiar with fluid waste management systems and placement in the docking station for proper emptying and sanitizing, as well as placing back into service.
  • Perform detailed cleaning, including dusting, wall washing, ceilings, tracks, vents, lights, and booms.
  • Perform scrubbing, finish removal, buffing/burnishing, and recoating of floors where applicable with powered floor care equipment.
  • Extract carpets or direct the proper use of carpet care equipment in a safe and effective manner, utilizing the appropriate chemicals and procedures.
  • Utilize ladders to remove and install privacy curtains while adhering to isolation cleaning protocols and scheduled cleaning.
  • Collect soiled linen and transport to hospital staging area for vendor pickup.
  • Assist Team Leader with inventory management of supplies via mobile technology.
  • Be responsible for or direct staff to accomplish project work, including moving of equipment and office materials, construction cleaning, and emergency disaster cleaning.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (Preferred)
  • Minimum of 1 year-Related work experience (Preferred)
