About the Job

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Program Aide to join our team at Self-Help for the Elderly. As a Program Aide, you will provide personal care services, conduct group activities, and prepare and distribute meals to Adult Day Services participants.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide personal care services to participants under the supervision of nursing staff, including toileting, transferring, personal hygiene, and dressing.
  • Escort participants between group vans and the center, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Monitor participants' conditions and behaviors, reporting unusual observations to appropriate staff and/or during morning huddles.
  • Encourage and assist participants to engage in activities as necessary, planning and conducting parties or special events for participants.
  • Prepare snacks, beverages, and other food items for meals, cutting, chopping, and/or grinding food as needed to meet individual participants' needs.
  • Distribute meals in appropriate portions based on established standards, discarding unused portions according to Center policies and procedures.
  • Assist in cleaning up after meals and performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Experience in providing personal care to frail or disabled adults and/or experience working with older adults with Alzheimer's disease or dementia is highly preferred.
  • A California Home Health Aide certificate or Certified Nursing Assistant certificate is also highly preferred.
  • The ideal candidate must be self-motivated, able to work in a team environment, and possess excellent communication skills, particularly in Cantonese and simple English.
  • Ability to pass a strength test for physical fitness for the job, lifting up to 40 lbs from floor to waist level.
  • Must have TB clearance within 12 months prior to employment and maintain clearance annually thereafter.
  • Must acquire CPR and First Aid certificates within 6 months of employment and maintain current certificates thereafter.
