Position Overview
Fairview Health Services is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Scientist for our specialized Cell Therapy Laboratory. This role is primarily focused on operations within the Main Lab.

Work Schedule
This is a full-time position with hours from Monday to Friday, including occasional weekends. The working hours are from 1:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Laboratory Operations
The laboratory is responsible for processing over 1,000 cellular products annually, which includes a variety of sources such as autologous, allogeneic-related, and allogeneic-unrelated products in support of our Blood and Marrow Transplant Program.

Interview Process
Candidates may be invited to complete a video interview, providing an opportunity to present their qualifications and interest in the position directly to our leadership team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Duties:
    Conduct cell and tissue processing procedures essential for transplantation preparation.
  • Processing Techniques:
    Engage in plasma and red blood cell depletion, buffy coat cell preparation, cryopreservation, thawing, and quality control testing.
  • Laboratory Equipment:
    Operate various laboratory instruments, including centrifuges, cell washers, analyzers, microscopes, and controlled rate freezers.
  • Data Management:
    Utilize software systems for database and cell processing entry, including Microsoft Access and Excel.
  • Analytical Testing:
    Perform analytical hematology, blood banking, and potency testing on cellular products.

Quality Assurance:
  • Monitor quality control for laboratory processes and equipment.
  • Adhere to standard operating procedures and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Document and communicate abnormal results promptly.

Personal Attributes:
  • Team-oriented with flexibility in work hours.
  • Able to work independently and effectively troubleshoot laboratory procedures.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking to enhance productivity and efficiency.

Qualifications
  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant laboratory field or equivalent experience as defined by CLIA '88.
  • Certification: Must possess or be eligible for HHS approved laboratory certification (ASCP, NCA, or AMT), with certification required within one year of hire.
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.

Accreditations
The UMMC Clinical Cell Therapy Laboratory is accredited by CLIA, FACT, CAP, and AABB.
