Key Responsibilities of Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) or Home Support Specialists
- Execute personal care tasks as outlined by the supervising Registered Nurse (RN), which may encompass assisting clients with hygiene, mobility, nutrition, dressing, grooming, and safe transfers.
- Ensure a clean, safe, and healthy living environment, which may involve light housekeeping duties such as tidying up bathrooms, organizing living spaces, and managing laundry and dishes.
- Monitor and document fluid intake and output, as well as vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
- Maintain accurate records of personal care activities and observations.
- Report any noticeable changes in the client’s condition or behavior to the supervising Registered Nurse (RN).
Qualifications for Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) or Home Support Specialists
Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience: At least 1 year of experience in a home care setting is preferred.
Certification/Licensure:
- Valid certification as a CNA in Florida or completion of a Home Health Aide training program (40-75 hours)
- Current BLS CPR Certification (in-person training required)
- TB Skin Test (PPD) or TB Blood Test (QF)
- Completion of an approved 2-hour Alzheimer's training course (provided at no cost if needed)
- Access to a 1-hour DOEA Alzheimer's training video (available for free online)
- Completion of a minimum 2-hour CEU course on Assistance with Self-Administration of Medication
- HIV/AIDS CEU completion
