Lead Editor

Job Summary:

The Managing Editor will oversee the print and online products of the publication, supervising editorial staff to ensure all editorial requirements/standards are met.

Key Responsibilities:

• Adhere to journalistic ethics, ensuring reporting is balanced and objective
• Confer with CherryRoad Media policies
• Coordinate functions and operations between departments
• Supervise daily tasks, including planning, story assignments, editing, layout, and assuring deadlines are met
• Prepare and supervise newsroom budget
• Communicate with readers, answering questions and providing information
• Oversee and contribute to social media sites and website
• Work with editorial staff to coordinate and assure full coverage of news, human interest, and sports in the market
• Assure the newspaper is meeting its responsibility as a public watchdog through hyper-local, in-depth reporting
• Write daily editorials, a weekly column, and stories as needed
• Produce photography and videos as needed
• Work closely with upper management team, including directors of advertising, circulation production, and the business office
• Represent the newspaper at public functions

Requirements:

• Good communication skills for effectively dealing with internal and external customers
• Excellent keyboarding and computer knowledge
• Excellent knowledge of grammar, spelling, and AP style
• Ability to react quickly to new developments and exercise judgement
• Ability to juggle multiple stories and deadlines

Education and Experience:

• Degree in Journalism or related field of study preferred
• Minimum of 3 years experience in newsroom preferred
