Job Summary

As a member of the transport team at Atrium Health, the Paramedic I provides patient care while promoting safety and efficiency. This role requires the ability to work in high-stress situations and make rapid, appropriate decisions to ensure the safety of both the crew and patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Completes skills checks in a timely manner with accuracy.
  • Maintains a clean environment, including the base and vehicles, in a mission-ready status.
  • Provides accurate and legible documentation of patient care, ensuring that charts are placed in patient records in a timely manner.
  • Administers medications and IV solutions safely, correctly, and per policy.
  • Follows guidelines and procedures independently when Medical Control is not available via radio or direct consultation.
  • Assists with other activities, including public relations and marketing, as needed.
  • Follows safety guidelines and procedures, ensuring seat belts are worn by crew and passengers.
  • Drives in accordance with Atrium Health policy and local and state regulations.
Requirements
  • High school graduate or GED required.
  • Successful completion of an accredited EMT-Paramedic training program required.
  • Current NC EMT-P certification required.
  • SC EMT-P and National Registry Paramedic certifications preferred at time of hire; SC EMT-P and National Registry Paramedic required within 90 days of hire and required to be maintained throughout employment.
  • BCLS and ACLS required.
  • PALS, S.T.A.B.L.E., and NRP preferred; required within 90 days of hire.
  • Approved trauma certification required within 6 months of employment.
  • Current driver's license (prefer NC/SC) with no more than 6 points on license required.
  • Atrium Health approved driving course to be completed within 90 days of hire and maintained throughout employment required.
  • One-year of paramedic experience required.
  • Annual completion of safety briefings and annual survival training required.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and qualify as insurable by Atrium Health insurance carrier requirements for driving MedCenter Air vehicles.
  • Must have an operational smartphone for use as a communication device related to MedCenter Air operations.
  • Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS) approved specialty certification required.
