Job Overview

POSITION TITLE: Educational Intervention Specialist

REPORTS TO: Principal and/or designated Central Office personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; master's degree from an accredited institution is highly preferred, with a minimum of 5 years of teaching experience; valid Alabama Department of Education Teacher License.

JOB GOAL: The Educational Intervention Specialist will offer leadership, support, and expertise in the execution of literacy and mathematics curricula, facilitating efforts with educators and students to ensure that every learner achieves proficiency in reading and mathematics at grade level. This role is designed to foster teachers' professional growth while delivering effective, targeted intervention instruction and services to students.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Conducts professional development sessions focused on intervention best practices for school-based staff.
  1. Delivers effective, data-informed, and research-supported small group tutoring to tier 2 and tier 3 students in collaboration with general education instructors.
  2. Key responsibilities include intervention coaching and small group instruction.
  3. Takes responsibility for the enhancement of staff and student performance in the areas of ELA/Literacy and mathematics instruction.
  4. Stays updated on best practices and new developments in literacy, mathematics, and behavior, sharing relevant information with appropriate personnel.
  5. Engages in ongoing and job-embedded professional development through meetings, workshops, training sessions, and seminars to assess the effectiveness of literacy/math content knowledge, pedagogy, and coaching.
  6. Assists educators and school-based staff in delivering effective instruction tailored to the diverse needs of learners by coaching on best instructional practices, monitoring student progress, supporting small group interventions, and adapting strategies to ensure accessibility for all students.
  7. Mentors and coaches staff to enhance their capacity to teach academic skills, thereby improving ELA/Literacy and mathematics instruction at assigned schools.
  8. Demonstrates flexibility by working across multiple schools as needed to drive necessary changes at the individual student, classroom, school, and district levels.
  9. Communicates expertise by assuming a leadership role school-wide when initiatives pertain to areas of specialization.
  10. Actively contributes to the instructional coaching team.
  11. Participates in building problem-solving team meetings as requested.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.
General Responsibilities:
  1. Utilizes research-based literacy and mathematics instructional programs and strategies to enhance student learning.
  2. Collaborates with teachers and instructional coaches to develop, implement, and assess effective interventions to ensure equitable learning for all students.
  3. Models exemplary instructional practices and coaching support linked to literacy and mathematics theories to elevate student achievement levels.
  4. Provides intervention tutoring and support to small groups of students based on identified needs.
  5. Facilitates classroom teachers in implementing assigned interventions with fidelity.
  6. Organizes and assists classroom teachers in structuring literacy and mathematics instruction, including collaborative lesson planning.
  7. Partners with classroom teachers and instructional coaches to create student intervention plans.
  8. Works in collaboration with teachers, instructional coaches, and principals to monitor student progress in literacy and mathematics.
