About the Position

We are seeking a skilled Nurse Specialist to join our team on the Mother Baby Unit at The University of Kansas Health System. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide high-quality care to patients and their families in a fast-paced environment.

Job Summary

This position is responsible for providing professional nursing care through assessment, accurate documentation, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation for the comfort and well-being of patients. You will carry out a plan of care specific to unit competencies for the target patient population and coordinate care delivery and education through collaboration with patients, families, and all healthcare team providers to ensure safe, effective, and quality patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Clinical Responsibilities:
    • Provides professional nursing care through assessment, accurate documentation, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation for the comfort and well-being of patients.
    • Carries out a plan of care specific to unit competencies for the target patient population.
    • Coordinates care delivery and education through collaboration with patients, families, and all healthcare team providers to ensure safe, effective, and quality patient care.
  • Education and Training:
    • Participates in ongoing education and training programs to stay current with best practices and advancements in maternal-child healthcare.
    • Mentors and precepts students (medical students, nursing students, paramedic students, and others) to foster a culture of learning and development.
  • Unit-Specific Requirements:
    • Works collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to achieve unit-specific goals and objectives.
    • Contributes to the development and implementation of unit policies and procedures to promote excellence in patient care.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Kansas or a compact license.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association within 14 days of hire.
  • At least 6 months to 2 years of experience as a Clinical Nurse.
  • An Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN).
Salary and Benefits

The estimated salary for this position is $$62,000 - $82,000 per year, depending on experience. We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, and retirement savings plans.
