The primary role of the Certified Medical Technician is to support the administration of medications to residents as prescribed by the attending physician. This is conducted under the supervision of the nurse supervisor and the Director of Nursing, ensuring compliance with established nursing standards, facility policies, and state regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Communication
1.1. Effectively conveys essential information regarding resident care during shifts and at changeovers to the responsible personnel.
1.2. Maintains a positive and cooperative demeanor in all communications.
1.3. Engages in active listening to demonstrate receptiveness. - Medication Administration
2.1. Precisely prepares, administers, and documents oral and topical medications as ordered.
2.2. Adheres to labeling policies and ensures all medications are correctly labeled.
2.3. Follows established procedures for documenting medication administration and handling discontinued medications.
2.4. Monitors and records vital signs accurately, reporting any abnormalities.
2.5. Observes residents to confirm medication ingestion or application, documenting any instances of non-administration. - Safety Protocols
3.1. Provides clear explanations to residents regarding their medications.
3.2. Implements infection control measures, including proper hand hygiene.
3.3. Adheres to standard precautions and disease-specific protocols. - Team Collaboration
4.1. Works collaboratively under the guidance of nursing staff, maintaining productivity and organization.
4.2. Stays updated on best practices in medication administration and completes required training. - Professional Development
5.1. Upholds the facility's philosophy by adhering to policies and nursing standards.
5.2. Identifies opportunities for improvement and adapts positively to changes.
- Must be of legal working age.
- Ability to read and follow written instructions.
- Effective communication skills in English with residents and colleagues.
- Capability to interact tactfully with residents, families, and the public.
- Willingness to work overtime as needed.
- Completion of a Certified Nurses Aide course.
- Certification as a Medication Aide/Technician from an approved training program.
- Current federally required vaccinations or valid exemption proof.
- Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Capacity to carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to push or pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent stooping and bending throughout the workday.
- Reaching and grasping with arms and hands, including overhead reaching.
- Ability to manage stressful situations effectively.
