The 6D unit is an intermediate ICU, also known as a Progressive Care Unit, featuring a 16-bed fully monitored environment. We provide high-acuity care for critically ill post-operative trauma patients, stroke patients, and medical overflow cases. Common therapies administered in 6D include lumbar drain management, external ventricular drain management, antidysrhythmic/calcium channel blocking drips, low-dose vasopressors, Bipap and high-flow oxygen systems, insulin drips, and precedex. The unit collaborates closely with the Cardiovascular PCU, offering opportunities for cross-training between departments. We are part of the Critical Care Cluster, encompassing all ICUs and PCUs.

Working in 6D allows you to provide compassionate care in a dynamic, team-oriented, and rewarding environment. There are endless learning opportunities, and team members are committed to mentoring. Career path programs are available to facilitate transitions into ICU units with an 18-month track.

Qualifications:

Education: Graduate of an accredited registered professional nursing program
Licensure: Responsible for obtaining and maintaining a current RN license within the hiring state and/or compact licensure, meeting all state board of nursing requirements.
Physical Requirements/Demands:
  • Ability to push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds regularly
  • Prolonged standing and walking required each shift
  • Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties
Certifications:
  • Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association or successful completion of the course within 30 days of hire.
Mercy has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
