We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Software Engineer, Backend to join our Platform Product Group at Coinbase. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in building a trusted, scalable, and compliant platform to maximize velocity, efficiency, and quality.

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will be responsible for architecting and developing distributed systems, providing technical guidance to teams, and mentoring other engineers on the team. You will also design and implement foundational infrastructure components used by every engineering team in production.

We are looking for someone with 8+ years of experience in software engineering, who has a passion for building an open financial system that brings the world together. You should be experienced in architecting and developing solutions to ambiguous problems with significant impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Architect and develop distributed systems
  • Provide technical guidance to teams and mentor other engineers
  • Design and implement foundational infrastructure components
  • Write high-quality, well-tested code to meet the needs of customers

What We Look For:

  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering
  • Experience in architecting and developing solutions to ambiguous problems with significant impact
  • Passion for building an open financial system that brings the world together

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience in decomposing a large monolith into microservices
  • Experience with Golang, Ruby, Docker, Sinatra, Rails, Postgres
  • Experience in building financial, high-reliability, or security systems

Pay Transparency Notice:

The target annual salary for this position can range from $211,650 to $249,000 USD, depending on your work location. Full-time offers from Coinbase also include a target bonus, target equity, and benefits (including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k)).
