Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Transportation Planner to join our team at SunLine Transit Agency. As a key member of our planning department, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of our transportation system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research and analysis related to public transportation, including ridership trends and transportation demand management strategies.
  • Assist with the investigation of transportation issues, potential strategies, and measures to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our transportation system.
  • Develop alternative transportation solutions utilizing scenario planning and data analysis.
  • Prepare reports and research for various public meetings, committees, executives, and board members.
  • Assist with the development of SunLine's short-range transportation plan and agency strategic planning.
  • Provide technical writing, National Transit Database reporting, and Federal Transit Administration compliance support.
  • Assist with planning Mobility services, including microtransit, micromobility, and Mobility-As-A-Service (MaaS) to provide a complete set of transportation services to the community.
  • Conduct data analysis, including Excel data entry, cleaning, and advanced data sorting, reporting, and manipulation functions.
  • Perform analysis on ridership and provide information and monthly summary/ad hoc reports as required.
  • Assist in design, implementation, and evaluation of passenger or public surveys and participate in public processes and workshops with local officials, agencies, jurisdictions, groups, and the public to advance transit projects and programs.
  • Participate in community meetings and activities that may impact public transportation.
  • Analyze traffic and operating conditions, passenger loads, Automatic Passenger Count (APC), and Automatic Vehicle Locator (AVL) data.
  • Assemble related statistical data and compile reports.
  • Maintain data related to agency key performance indicators (KPIs).
Requirements
  • Computer literate.
  • Good writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to read, understand, and apply agency policies and regulations.
  • Ability to speak clearly, distinctly, and effectively in person-to-person or small group situations using tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to establish and maintain priorities in order to complete assignments by deadlines without detailed instructions; and skill in verifying the accuracy and completeness of forms and reports.
  • Knowledge of ArcGIS or QGIS.
  • Knowledge of SketchUp preferred.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Economics, or a closely related field.
  • A valid California driver's license is required or the ability to gain a California driver's license.
  • Experience in transportation planning with a working knowledge of GIS can be substituted for education requirements.
