Your Impact
The Culinary Specialist is responsible for receiving and processing/preparing food orders for patients, staff, visitors, and catering customers at Enloe Health. They will perform short order cooking using established culinary techniques in the preparation of standard menu items. This role involves maintaining par stocks, ordering supplies, rotating products for maximum quality, and minimizing waste during the flow of food preparation. All food handling and preparation activities must be performed in accordance with external and internal safety and sanitation standards and related regulatory guidelines.
Job Responsibilities
- Understand modified diets and work collaboratively as part of the team to support patient nutritional well-being.
- Meet time deadlines for patient services, cafe service, and catering.
- Prepare a variety of meats, seafood, poultry, vegetables, and other food items in broilers, ovens, grills, fryers, and a variety of other kitchen equipment according to standardized recipes.
- Take full responsibility for the quality of the product served.
- Familiarize yourself with and consistently comply with standard portion sizes, cooking methods, quality standards, and kitchen rules, policies, and procedures.
- Stock and maintain sufficient levels of food products at line stations to ensure a smooth service period.
- Portion food products prior to cooking according to standard portion sizes and recipe specifications.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary workstation area including tables, shelves, grills, broilers, fryers, pasta cookers, sauté burners, convection ovens, flat top range, and refrigeration equipment.
- Prepare items for broiling, grilling, frying, sauteing, or other cooking methods by portioning, battering, breading, seasoning, and/or marinating.
- Follow proper plate presentation and garnish set up for all dishes.
- Properly handle, store, and rotate all products.
- Assist in food prep assignments during off-peak periods as needed.
- Closely follow the closing checklist for kitchen stations and assist others in closing the kitchen properly.
- Attend all scheduled employee meetings and bring suggestions for improvement.
- Perform any additional duties as required.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with the ability to learn, retain, and perform new information.
- A valid ServeSafe Food Manager Certification is mandatory; if not already obtained, it must be acquired within 90 days of hire.
- Candidates must meet eligibility criteria, including undergoing and successfully completing a criminal background check and drug screen in accordance with applicable State laws and regulations.
- The ability to provide documents for work authorization is necessary, as we utilize E-Verify, an online system that confirms employees' eligibility to work in the United States.
- A High School Diploma/GED is required.

- A hazard includes, but is not limited to, cuts from broken glass, knives, production equipment, and metal cans, burns, slipping and tripping.
- Frequent washing of hands.
- May occasionally lift and/or move 40+ pounds.
Estimated Salary: $19.28 - $22.50 per hour
