Job Summary

As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer at UVA Health Northern VA & Culpeper, you will work in concert with radiologists to obtain high-quality ultrasound images and provide exceptional patient care. This role requires a strong commitment to patient safety and comfort, as well as the ability to prioritize workflow and ensure timely patient arrival and departure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure patient safety and comfort while in the radiology department
  • Explain procedures and post-procedure orders to patients to gain cooperation and minimize anxiety
  • Prioritize workflow based on patient condition and ensure timely patient arrival and departure
  • Provide an atmosphere conducive to gaining patient cooperation and confidence
  • Utilize patient satisfaction and practice performance data to identify opportunities for improvement and participate in the planning and improvement process
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED; Associate's Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography preferred
  • 1 year experience in sonography preferred; ARDMS certified within first year of employment required
  • Demonstrated proficiency in verbal and written communications; ability to work in a stressful environment and multitask
Working Conditions

This role requires standing for prolonged periods, frequent travel, and reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive). Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills are required, as well as attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull up to 100 lbs. May be exposed to radiation.
