Amentum is seeking a highly skilled DNA Analyst to join our team in Fort Gillem, GA. As a DNA Examiner II, you will be responsible for examining evidence, collecting DNA samples, generating STR DNA profiles, and analyzing data to support forensic investigations.
Key Responsibilities- Evidence Examination: Examine evidence in consultation with firearms and latent print analysts to ensure proposed collection approach will not negatively impact collection of other forensic data from the evidence.
- DNA Sample Collection: Collect potential DNA samples from evidence using approved procedures designed to minimize the possibility of sample contamination.
- STR DNA Profile Generation: Generate STR DNA profiles from evidence and reference samples.
- Data Analysis: Analyze and interpret data from analysis which typically consists of complex mixtures and low level samples.
- Mixture Interpretation: Use probabilistic genotyping software STRmix to interpret mixture data.
- Documentation: Annotate the case file documentation, detailing the processing techniques and the examination results.
- Review and Quality Control: Perform administrative and/or technical reviews of reports and worksheets to ensure accuracy and quality.
- Chain of Custody: Ensure proper chain of custody is maintained throughout the examination process.
- Instrument Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on DNA analysis instruments to ensure optimal performance.
- Education and Experience: A minimum of a Bachelor's degree coupled with 3+ years' experience working in a forensic laboratory performing DNA analysis on criminal evidence and/or intelligence exploitation.
- Skills and Qualifications: Must be able to identify blood and bloodstains, body fluids, and stains of body fluids, hair and other items requiring DNA or related analysis. Must be able to generate STR DNA profiles and perform mixture interpretations using probabilistic genotyping software. Must be able to compare evidence from victims, scenes, or instruments of incidents to evidence from suspects.
- Certifications and Clearances: Must be able to obtain and maintain Secret US Government clearance. US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret clearance.
- Physical and Mental Demands: Must be able to physically deploy globally as a team member and meet the physical demands of the job.
- Professional Certification: Professional certification such as American Board of Criminalistics (ABC) is desired.
