Position Overview
The Expert Mechanical Technician is tasked with performing functional assessments, servicing, and executing repairs or replacements of essential devices, equipment, and machinery that support production operations within a designated area of the facility. This role involves taking full responsibility for the assigned area and its equipment, ensuring optimal operating conditions through systematic inspections and preemptively identifying and addressing potential failures as part of the Preventative Maintenance (PM) and Predictive Maintenance (PdM) Program. The Expert Mechanical Technician will also oversee the creation and management of preventative and predictive maintenance schedules for assigned assets to mitigate costly repairs, product losses, and equipment downtime. Collaborating with the maintenance planner/scheduler, the technician will engage in activities and projects aimed at maintaining asset integrity, pursuing continuous improvement opportunities, and achieving key performance indicators for the facility, including Operational Availability (OA) and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement proper lockout-tagout procedures and adhere to Purple's Safety Guidelines, offering suggestions for safety enhancements in the assigned area.
  • Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and fall protection measures as required.
  • Develop preventive and predictive maintenance protocols based on OEM guidelines and industry best practices, updating them periodically using historical equipment runtime data.
  • Maintain and periodically revise the equipment bill of materials (BOM).
  • Support maintenance and engineering teams during the assembly and modification of new machinery.
  • Participate in meetings related to assets within your designated area.
  • Employ root cause analysis techniques to troubleshoot issues, reduce downtime, and enhance overall equipment availability and effectiveness.
  • Ensure a clean and safe working environment.
  • Establish procedures or standards based on subject matter expertise for executing tasks effectively.
  • Set performance objectives and determine acceptable performance benchmarks.
  • Provide recommendations for procedural enhancements.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the terminology and concepts within your area of expertise.
  • Possess the requisite knowledge to facilitate effective decision-making and serve as the primary resource for inquiries and challenges within your domain.
  • Clearly articulate your area of expertise to others, addressing questions about processes and their rationale.
Qualifications:
  • Training in lockout-tagout, fall protection, and root cause analysis is advantageous.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong attention to detail in executing job responsibilities.
  • Experience with Maintenance Management systems such as L2L is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in computer applications.
  • Capability to operate forklifts.
  • Flexibility to adjust work schedules to accommodate equipment downtime or departmental requirements.
  • Team-oriented with a collaborative mindset.
  • Ability to identify potential decision-making flaws or anomalies.
  • Minimum of 10 years of industrial mechanical experience.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • At least 7 years of experience in a progressive maintenance role, or an Associate's Degree with 5 years of relevant experience (experience may substitute for degree).

  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
