Position Summary:
The role of the Superintendent is crucial for coordinating all activities associated with a construction project on-site, ensuring work is completed ahead of schedule, within budget, and according to specifications. Responsibilities will vary based on client needs and project size, involving different levels of authority and responsibility.
ResponsibilitiesEssential Job Functions:
- Adhere to and promote all company safety policies and procedures.
- Oversee a team comprising multiple Leadmen, Foremen, and Superintendents, managing up to 60 employees.
- Supervise the overall direction, coordination, performance, and evaluation of subcontractors.
- Perform all duties associated with lower-level Superintendent and/or Foreman roles.
- Directly supervise, coordinate, and delegate tasks to Superintendents, Foremen, and construction trade workers across various occupations.
- Coordinate activities among multiple subcontractors.
- Engage with clients to maintain project schedules and budget adherence.
- Maintain an organized receiving system.
- Prepare accurate two-week look-ahead plans.
- Utilize advanced technology for job layouts.
- Communicate effectively with employees in both oral and written formats.
- Conduct minor estimating tasks.
- Understand and apply scheduling techniques.
- Complete all necessary project reports and maintain documentation for all project aspects.
- Ensure all operators are certified and that all equipment is maintained on-site.
- Assist Human Resources and Superintendents with interviewing, hiring, training, performance appraisals, and addressing employee concerns in the field.
- Manage, lead, and mentor direct reports.
- Supervise up to five foremen and lead other superintendents and crews comprising over 100 employees.
Education and Work Experience Requirements:
Superintendent I:
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a supervisory role within construction.
Superintendent II:
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience or a combination of experience and education in a supervisory capacity.
Superintendent III:
- Five (5) years or more of experience or a combination of experience and education in a supervisory role.
- Familiarity with MIC Health and Safety programs and project-specific regulations.
- Active participation in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors when on-site.
- Exemplify safe behavior as a personal standard.
- Organize, instruct, and supervise construction crews and subcontractors across all construction areas.
- Comprehensive knowledge of construction tools, machinery, methods, and procedures.
- Ability to forecast and monitor project costs.
- Understanding of construction methods, scheduling, and blueprint interpretation.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, ability to motivate workers, and effective communication with workers, subordinates, and clients.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, email, and internet applications preferred.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure and within tight timelines.
- Capability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Effective public speaking skills before groups of customers or employees.
- Ability to perform calculations involving discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to apply basic algebra and geometry concepts.
- Ability to identify problems, gather data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret a wide variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and manage several abstract and concrete variables.
- Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
- Maintain strong relationships with all team members and supervisors.
Hours:
This is a full-time position, typically requiring 50 hours of work per week, subject to project demands.
Travel:
Travel may be required up to 90%. This position necessitates presence directly on the project site with occasional travel to the employee's residence.
