About the Department

The Department of Dermatology is a leading institution in the field, currently ranked #10 nationally in NIH funding. The department includes laboratory, office, and clinical space, and is staffed with Board Certified Dermapathologists and a support staff. The Dermapathology Skin Pathology Laboratory (SPL) processes over 20,000 specimens per year, providing services for the department's physicians and other ambulatory departments.

About the Role

The Chair will be a major institutional leader and must advocate for their department's staff and faculty. Working with the Dean and other senior leaders, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to expand on an already strong foundation of grant-funded research, clinical care, and education excellence to continue to build a nationally and internationally renowned department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the Department of Dermatology and serve as Dermatologist-in-Chief
  • Advocate for the department's staff and faculty
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to expand research, clinical care, and education excellence
  • Manage departmental resources and budget
  • Mentor and develop outstanding talent
  • Represent the department in various institutional and external settings
Requirements
  • MD, MD/PhD, and Dermatology board certification by the American Board of Dermatology or equivalent
  • Academic credentials that support a faculty appointment at the professor rank at Boston University
  • Expertise as a superb clinical dermatologist
  • Established record as a strong educator
  • Demonstrated track record of leadership and management gained within an academic department, research-intensive university, or institute
  • NIH-funded research background in Dermatology, ideally with current research support
  • Strong organizational, financial, and budgetary skills
  • Success in mentoring and developing outstanding talent
  • A strong record of research accomplishments and productivity
