Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Battery Engineer to lead our energy storage systems design and development efforts. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the technical integrity and quality of our battery energy storage systems (BESS) projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement technical specifications for BESS projects, including battery enclosures, storage inverters, auxiliary power equipment, and SCADA systems.
  • Lead BESS fire protection and safety code compliance reviews, and ensure that all projects meet the required standards.
  • Review project-specific power purchase agreements (PPAs) and develop engineering procurement construction (EPC) technical exhibits.
  • Support BESS construction and commissioning, addressing engineering issues as needed.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including engineering, project development, and procurement teams, to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Establish and maintain engineering requirements for all future BESS projects.
  • Work with the development and procurement teams to size and optimize energy storage systems and augmentation.
  • Provide technical support to project development and marketing groups for BESS PPA negotiation and contract execution.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest battery technology and industry developments, and provide subject matter expertise as needed.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in engineering, with at least 3 years in energy storage.
  • Working experience in battery technology for energy storage applications.
  • Knowledge of batteries and battery systems, with a focus on Lithium technology.
  • Understanding of battery degradation and life cycle behavior in relation to BESS use cases.
  • Experience in utility-scale AC and DC coupled energy storage power plants.
  • Familiarity with medium voltage AC collection and high voltage substation designs.
  • Knowledge of energy storage inverters and energy storage technology offerings and suppliers.
  • Familiarity with latest versions of energy storage codes/standards, including NFPA 855 and NESC.
  • Knowledge of energy storage project integration and associated plant SCADA/control systems.
  • Ability to create, read, and interpret construction plans and specifications.
