Thermal Engineer III Job Description

At Blue Origin, we're pushing the boundaries of space exploration and development. As a Thermal Engineer III, you'll play a critical role in the design and operation of our launch vehicles and spacecraft.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and verify thermal models for launch vehicles and spacecraft
  • Integrate third-party thermal models into Blue Origin's vehicle models
  • Conduct thermal analysis of launch vehicles and spacecraft components
  • Implement aero-thermal, plume, and convective heating environments during all phases of flight
  • Perform trade studies relating to subsystem design, architecture, and operation
  • Develop and maintain thermal analysis inputs, models, and results in report and databooks
Requirements:
  • Minimum of BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in fluids, thermal, or thermodynamics
  • Experience with fluid or thermal modeling tools (e.g., ANSYS Workbench, ANSYS Classic, SINDA/FLUINT, Thermal Desktop, etc.)
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Extensive experience with logic-heavy Thermal Desktop models
  • Knowledge of MATLAB, Python, C#, and/or Fortran
  • Familiarity with knowledge capture systems, integrated engineering tools, and rapid development processes
  • Knowledge in the use of 3D CAD tools (CREO is preferred)

Blue Origin offers a competitive compensation package, including a salary range of $120,060.00-$168,084.00, depending on location.
