Job Overview

This role involves supporting the biological systems engineering (BSE) team in the Commonwealth of Virginia by assisting with the setup, management, and upkeep of field and laboratory data gathering for various projects aimed at enhancing water quality and availability in different ecosystems.

Essential Qualifications

Candidates should have prior experience in environmental monitoring, data acquisition, statistical evaluation, programming, GIS applications, and/or watershed analysis. The ability to traverse challenging terrains independently, proficiency in computer applications (such as MS Office, MATLAB, R, or equivalent software), and a willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions are crucial. A valid U.S. driver's license with a satisfactory driving record and a clean criminal background check are mandatory. Access to a vehicle may be required for work-related tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

The position is expected to involve considerable travel and necessitate the capability to navigate rugged landscapes independently, and, following training, with minimal oversight. The anticipated responsibilities include conducting field sampling for runoff quality assessments, performing laboratory tests, executing statistical or numerical evaluations, and engaging in computer modeling or geographic information system (GIS) analyses. This is a part-time, off-campus position.

Compensation Details

Pay Band: 1

Salary: $16.00 per hour, commensurate with experience

Additional Information

The selected candidate will be required to undergo a criminal conviction check.
