Psychiatric Aide

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Psychiatric Aide to join our team at Central Louisiana State Hospital. As a Psychiatric Aide, you will play a vital role in creating and maintaining a therapeutic environment for patients with mental health conditions.

• Assist in creating and maintaining a safe and sanitary environment for patients
• Perform routine nursing duties such as taking vital signs and weighing patients
• Record data on patients' charts concerning behavioral observations, vital signs, symptoms, accidents, injuries, etc.
• Care for the personal needs of patients and assist them in good grooming, personal hygiene, eating, and the control of money and valuables
• Accompany patients to clinics, meals, recreational activities, field trips, etc. to insure safety and prevent elopements
• Clean, sanitize, and maintain safe surroundings
• Perform required duties in maintaining a safe and sanitary environment for patients
• Assist in restraining hostile and physically violent patients utilizing therapeutic intervention techniques
• Makes rounds to check patients' presence; checks for compliance with safety rules and regulations and documents appropriately
• Interact with patients as a therapeutic function; observe and report condition of patients to appropriate professional personnel
• Observe, collect, and label urines for drug screen and/or analysis
• Administer breathalyzer
• Participate with groups in therapeutic activities
• Assist in emergency situations
• Supervise the work of patients engaged in work activities

• No experience or training required
• Function of Work: To perform responsible non-professional nursing support work which involves assisting in creating and maintaining a therapeutic environment for patients
• Level of Work: Entry
• Supervision Received: Close from a Psychiatric Aide Supervisor or other professional medical personnel
• Supervision Exercised: None
• Location of Work: State health care facilities and rehabilitation centers

This is a Day shift position (6:45am - 7:15pm) located at Central Louisiana State Hospital. Please refer to separate posting if you are interested in the night shift. Salary is negotiable based on experience.
