Job Summary:

The Plant Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for ensuring the optimal performance and efficiency of all production assets and equipment within a safe, sanitary, and efficient environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on production, packaging, processing equipment, and utility systems to ensure continuous operation.
  • Respond promptly to emergency breakdown situations and perform necessary repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Read and interpret technical procedures, electrical schematics, service manuals, and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance checks and analyze data to identify potential issues and prevent equipment failures.
  • Support manufacturing operations by maintaining equipment, performing routine checks, and ensuring compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Collaborate with other departments and teams to ensure effective communication and resolve any issues that may impact production efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of maintenance activities, including work orders, inventory, and equipment performance.
  • Assist in maintaining parts and supplies inventory by reporting low levels to management.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to the development of solutions to enhance efficiency and productivity.
  • Ensure a clean, sanitary, and safe work environment by adhering to company policies and procedures.
  • Comply with all safety protocols, including lockout-tagout procedures, personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, and confined space safety.
  • Participate in food safety and quality initiatives to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Formal Engineering/Maintenance Training desired.
  • No experience required with certificate, 1 year minimum experience in a maintenance role within a manufacturing facility, preferably food and beverage industry.
  • 1 year minimum experience with one or more technical experiences: Electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic, computer-controlled equipment, PLC, and HVAC.
  • 1 year minimum experience on a variety of equipment including lubricating, cleaning, material handling, motor control, relay control, process control, and packaging equipment.
  • Professional experience with ammonia refrigeration systems preferred.
  • Ability to inspect equipment, recognize potential problems, and independently take corrective action to prevent component failures or equipment downtime.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, kneel, and bend for virtually the entire shift.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to work in a wet environment with moderate to high noise volume.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to effectively work in a team environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to pass all pre-employment screens, including drug, background, and criminal checks.
