Position Title: Red Hat Enterprise Linux System Administrator

Description of Duties:

The Red Hat Enterprise Linux System Administrator plays a vital role in supporting the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) under the Integrated Research and Development for Enterprise Solutions (IRES) contract. The responsibilities include:

  • Providing engineering and technical direction for problem definition, analysis, requirement development, and implementation for complex systems.
  • Making recommendations and advising on system development, enhancements, optimization, or support efforts.
  • Conducting risk assessments and analyses using modeling and simulation techniques.
  • Collaborating on solutions to challenging problems.
  • Generating and applying concepts that demonstrate product or process improvements.
  • Utilizing engineering/scientific tools to integrate requirements and resolve technical issues.
  • Employing state-of-the-art simulation environments, laboratories, and test facilities.
  • Participating in engineering team activities within specialized engineering or technology areas.
  • Contributing to the technical planning process and providing technical guidance.
  • Offering technical support to customers, including basic inquiries, troubleshooting, and maintenance needs.
  • Creating and executing break/fix tickets for various support tiers.
  • Assisting in the testing and installation of system patches.
  • Managing hardware disposition needs, including asset sanitization and destruction when necessary.
  • Maintaining accurate inventory and stock planning.
  • Overseeing the management of incident requests (IRs) and change requests (CRQs).
  • Adapting to new technologies, situations, and tight deadlines.
  • Responding to customer requirements through daily interactions.
  • Being physically capable of lifting a minimum of 35 lbs and performing various physical tasks.

Basic Requirements:

  • Must possess one of the following combinations of education and experience: HS Diploma (or GED) with 2 years of general experience; Associate's degree with no prior experience.
  • At least 2.5 years of relevant experience in business systems, operating systems, and servers, or experience in programming and troubleshooting.
  • Must hold a DoD 8570 IAT Level II Certification such as CompTIA Security+ CE or higher.
  • Demonstrated experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
  • Must have, or be able to obtain, an active DoD Secret Security Clearance.
  • Familiarity with obtaining and installing updated Red Hat Enterprise Linux rpms.
  • Understanding of RHEL licensing and subscription provisioning.
  • Experience with storage devices and mounting storage from various systems.
  • Ability to work from a command line prompt and use visual interface editors.
  • Experience with bash scripting.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.
  • Possession of a valid passport or ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire.

Desired Requirements:

  • Possession of a Linux certification.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office tools.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows and Active Directory.
  • Understanding of Group Policies, DHCP, and DNS.
  • Experience with Ansible.
  • Experience administering a Red Hat Linux environment.
  • Proficiency in Linux command line operations.
  • Experience writing tests to verify functionality and requirements.
  • Experience with Bash scripting and executing Ansible playbooks.
  • Experience conducting log analysis.
  • Knowledge of VMware environments.
  • Recent experience with MDA and/or space-related projects.

This position offers a competitive salary range of $69,500 - $94,500 annually, based on experience, education, and relevant certifications.
