Position Summary:
- Employ the nursing process to deliver direct patient care. Accountable for prescribing, delegating, and coordinating comprehensive care for assigned patients. Care delivery adheres to established standards and practices set forth by the Nursing Department and relevant policies and procedures. Diagnose and address human responses to actual and potential health issues through services such as case finding, health education, counseling, and supportive or restorative care aimed at enhancing life quality and well-being. Supervise care provided by licensed practical nurses (LPNs), registered nurses on permit (RNP), nursing attendants, technicians, and supplemental staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate the immediate and ongoing care requirements of patients and their significant others.
- Formulate detailed and current care plans that encompass physical, educational, discharge planning, and psychosocial/spiritual needs.
- Deliver direct patient care based on assessed needs and prescribed medical regimen. Oversee and ensure comprehensive care delivery for patients, supervising the nursing personnel as defined by their scope of practice.
- Monitor, assess, document, and communicate patient responses to illness and therapeutic interventions to relevant team members. Ensure timely reassessment of patient responses to treatment and significant changes in patient condition or diagnosis.
- Coordinate the overall care plan to ensure the implementation of nursing interventions aligns with the medical regimen. Establish care priorities in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team and initiate follow-up as necessary to ensure timely patient care and therapeutic interventions. Ensure the care plan incorporates age-specific needs (e.g., pediatrics, geriatrics) as defined by the unit's scope of care.
- Accept responsibility and accountability for nursing interventions and outcomes based on professional clinical judgment.
- Engage in quality improvement activities related to patient care delivery and the development of nursing and hospital standards.
- Exhibit effective communication skills, manage stressful situations appropriately, and foster interpersonal relationships with other disciplines.
- Participate in the orientation of new nursing staff.
- Assume charge responsibilities as delegated by the Nurse/Manager designee.
- Ensure appropriate patient coverage by assisting and relieving colleagues, and working in other units as assigned.
- Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, their significant others, and staff.
- Serve as a clinical resource for nursing students.
- Participate in meetings, committees, conferences, and educational programs.
- Engage in research and pilot projects supported by the Nursing Department.
- Demonstrate commitment to ongoing professional growth and education, including attendance at staff development and continuing education programs, pursuit of baccalaureate or graduate degrees in nursing, and obtaining relevant professional certifications.
- Participate in appropriate professional and community organizations.
Essential Skills:
- Proficient knowledge and competency in both interventional and diagnostic procedures.
- Ability to effectively utilize electronic medical record systems, equipment, and other healthcare and billing systems pertinent to this role.
Knowledge and Abilities:
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to collaborate with physicians for TEE and loop recorder implants.
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in critical care.
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
Licensure and Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- New York State Registered Nurse License.
Preferred Certifications:
- Board Certification in Registered Nursing (CRN).
