Arnold & Porter is seeking a highly skilled Senior Policy Specialist to join its Legislative and Public Policy Practice Group in the Washington, DC office. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years of experience working in Congress, an Executive branch department or agency, an association, interest group, or company in the government relations field.
Key Responsibilities- Advocate for clients before the United States Congress and the departments and agencies of the Executive branch.
- Work across a number of policy sectors, including appropriations, defense, education, environmental and energy, financial services, foreign relations, healthcare and life sciences, tax, telecommunications, trade, and transportation.
- Develop and implement strategic plans to achieve client goals.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including Congressional staff, Executive branch officials, and industry leaders.
- Stay up-to-date on the latest developments in government relations and policy.
- Minimum of three years of experience working in Congress, the Executive branch, at a trade association, interest group, or for a corporation in government relations.
- Well-versed in the federal legislative process.
- Demonstrates strategic focus, self-motivation, and a drive to action.
- Ability to work independently as well as on a team.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, in oral and written form.
- Exhibit significant attention to detail and produce high-quality deliverables.
- Must possess good judgment and decision-making skills.
- Must have the ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Willing to be registered for firm clients under the Lobbying Disclosure Act.
