Job Summary and Responsibilities

The Neuro Surgical ICU Registered Nurse collaborates with patients, their families, and the healthcare team to assess, evaluate, plan, implement, and coordinate treatment strategies while achieving nursing department objectives. This role is crucial within the interdependent team, responsible for ensuring positive patient and departmental outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understand and manage patients with critical illnesses and ventilator support, responding to emergencies as necessary.
  • Facilitate patient flow, including screening, preparation for examinations, and general nursing care.
  • Educate patients and families on medications and treatment protocols.
  • Maintain and update patient records, including test results and examinations.
  • Administer medications per physician directives.
  • Conduct daily checks of patient rooms for necessary supplies.
  • Handle incoming calls, including triage when required.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program: Associate's Degree in Nursing or higher is required.
  • Active Registered Nurse license in the practicing state or an active Compact/Multi-State RN license.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross is required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from AHA or American Red Cross is preferred and must be obtained within 90 days of hire or transfer.
  • NIH Stroke Scale Certification must be completed within 90 days of hire or transfer.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in acute surgical critical care nursing is required.
