Job Description

As a Behavior Technician/Specialist at Arizona Autism Charter Schools, Inc., you will play a vital role in supporting the growth and development of students on the autism spectrum.

Responsibilities
  1. Classroom Support
  2. Assists in the implementation of instructional programs, including self-help and behavior management as well as instruction.
  3. Team Collaboration
  4. Work as part of a classroom team to support academic instruction and behavior plans.
  5. Lessons and Projects
  6. Execute lessons as directed by the teacher or classroom lead, including supporting independent work, special projects, or teaching a lesson to a small group.
  7. Materials Preparation
  8. Assist with classroom planning and preparing of materials with the classroom teacher.
  9. Student Assistance
  10. Assist students in participating in classroom routines, transitions and self-care tasks as necessary.
  11. ABA Techniques
  12. Implement behavior intervention techniques in alignment with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) as directed by ABA Manager or Campus Director.
  13. Mentorship and Training
  14. Mentor and train Paraprofessionals on best practices.
  15. Behavioral Supports
  16. Follow tier one behavioral supports and behavior plans as directed.
  17. QBS Certification
  18. Able to obtain and maintain QBS certification.
Qualifications
  • Classroom Experience
  • At least 1-2 years of experience in a classroom setting.
  • Behavioral Understanding
  • Must have an understanding of behavioral characteristics associated with autism and other behavior issues.
  • ABA Foundation
  • A strong foundation in applied behavior analysis preferred.
  • Communication
  • Has good communication skills, both written and verbal, particularly with parents and education professionals.
  • Instructional Knowledge
  • Has a basic understanding of instructional methods and education curriculums.
  • Interpersonal Skills
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Emotional Handling
  • Must be able to handle emotionally charged situations.
  • Training Ability
  • Has the ability to train other people to apply behavior management techniques effectively.
  • Success Record
  • Track record of success in behavior management with students with autism or other special needs
  • Approach to Challenges
  • Ability to approach situations with optimism and perseverance
  • Independence and Time Management
  • Ability to work independently and coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Judgment and Discretion
  • Ability to exercise reasonable judgment and maintain confidentiality
  • Certifications
  • A valid Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card required
  • Emergency Response
  • First aid/CPR certification required within 30 days of hire
  • Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Positions in this class require: stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

Working Conditions: Work is routinely performed in an indoor and outdoor classroom setting.
