BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB

As a Radiology/CT Technologist at East Tennessee Children's Hospital, you will perform a variety of diagnostic procedures utilizing ionizing radiation to diagnose disease processes and delineate both normal and abnormal anatomy. This role requires a strong understanding of radiation safety and protection techniques to minimize hazards.

REPORTS TO

This position reports to the Director of Radiology/Department Manager.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: None
  • Minimum Education: High School/GED Required
  • Degree: Completion of an accredited Radiological program
  • License/Certification Required: Registered by the American Registry of Radiographic Technology (ARRT) or Registry eligible
  • Minimum Work Experience: New graduate or 1 year of general radiology experience required. Pediatric experience preferred
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

You will need to have the ability to operate various x-ray equipment, fluoroscopic, and auxiliary equipment to produce quality images. Additionally, you must be able to work flexible hours, including alternate shifts, and rotate on call for evening, weekend, and holiday coverage.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Radiology/CT Technologist, your duties will include:

  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge and skill levels in area of expertise to ensure production of high-quality images
  • Safe operation of equipment and accessories with proper warm-up exposure, daily QC, and good reporting techniques
  • Quality Control guidelines, State and Federal regulations, and department policies/procedures
  • Utilization of the Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS) by creating and importing CDs and notifying the department and/or PACS manager of any errors or outstanding problems with completing patient data
  • Completion of Safety Reports and basic scheduling in Community Wide Scheduling (CWS)
Radiation and MRI Safety and Protection Techniques

You will be responsible for demonstrating radiation and MRI safety and protection techniques to minimize hazards, including ALARA, Dosimetry, Shielding, Collimation, and Magnetic field.

Correct Exam on Correct Patient

You will need to perform the correct exam on the correct patient, utilizing two patient identifiers: name and date of birth, and verifying the Meditech order with the physician's order.

PACS and Meditech Workflow

You will be responsible for following the PACS and Meditech workflow, reviewing, approving, and entering information in a timely and accurate manner after each patient.

Excellent Patient Care

You will provide excellent patient care and create an environment in which customers feel valued and respected. This includes consulting with the radiologist on duty to assure correct scanning parameters when necessary, providing explanations to patients about upcoming exams and procedures, and maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.

HIPAA Compliance

You will maintain strict patient confidentiality at all times, refraining from discussing customers or personal matters within customers' hearing.

Teamwork and Communication

You will work effectively as part of a department/unit team to facilitate the department's ability to meet its goals and objectives. This includes promoting effective working relations, using judgment to exercise delegated authority, and resolving differences in a spirit of cooperation.

Lean Principles

You will effectively utilize resources reflective of Lean Principles and participate in Lean board activities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires light lifting, pushing, and pulling (10-20 lbs occasionally) and frequent moving of objects of less than 10 lbs. You will also need to sit frequently with some walking, standing, squatting, bending, and reaching.
