Job Title: Automotive Technician

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Automotive Technician to join our team at Birmingham Water Works. As an Automotive Technician, you will be responsible for servicing, repairing, and maintaining a wide variety of Board vehicles, mechanical equipment, and power tools.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Inspect and evaluate vehicles and equipment in need of repairs, performing necessary repairs and recommending additional repairs following vehicle assessment.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance and repairs on gasoline/diesel vehicles, including cars, dump trucks, and equipment such as air compressors, backhoes, etc.
  • Make repairs to electrical systems and A/C equipment, including brakes, fuel injector systems, transmission and radiators, water pumps, and more.
  • Responsible for service on all Board vehicles daily, including oil and filter changes, fueling, and scheduling.
  • Test-drive vehicles prior to and after repairs, ensuring they are safe and roadworthy.
  • Participate in diagnostic and mechanical work activities of the department, working with various vendors to stay current on knowledge of equipment for vehicle repairs.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports for supervisor, including daily logs on fuel and oil for each vehicle and equipment.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two (2) years of automotive repair experience required, with ability to use diagnostic equipment for repair of various types of vehicles.
  • Able to repair diesel vehicles and read automotive codes to repair fleet vehicles.
  • Basic computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel required.
Work Environment:
  • Loud noise and ability to work near moving mechanical parts.
  • Outdoors in extreme hot/cold and/or wet weather conditions.
