Airworthiness Inspector Lead Job Description

Job Summary:


The Airworthiness Inspector Lead is responsible for ensuring that aircraft and aircraft components meet acceptable standards of quality and are returned to service in an airworthy condition. This role requires strong leadership and communication skills, as well as a comprehensive knowledge of inspection and certification processes.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead Inspection Teams: Plan, schedule, and supervise assigned inspectors on aircraft in the repair station.

  2. Ensure Quality Standards: Monitor the performance of airworthiness inspectors, provide training and guidance, and provide input for individual performance reviews.

  3. Coordinate Inspection Activities: Maintain current status of aircraft/components in assigned area and communicate effectively with the return to service staff.

  4. Ensure Compliance: Ensure quality representatives within the repair station perform their duties as outlined in QCM.

  5. Coordinate with Departments: Ensure inspection requirements are coordinated between departments.

  6. Accurate Records: Ensure accurate, neat, and legible records of the work performed on aircraft/components are maintained.

  7. Identify FAR 135 Operators: Identify FAR 135 operators, FAR 135 maintenance programs, and ensure adequate trained inspectors are available.

  8. Conduct Audits: Conduct audits of maintenance documentation for accuracy and completion on all aircraft/components prior to approval for return to service.

  9. Monitor Tools and Equipment: Monitor all department-calibrated tools and test equipment for current calibration and submit changes for any technical data found discrepant.

  10. Foreign Authority Requirements: Identify foreign authority-operated aircraft/components and ensure their requirements are met.

Requirements:

  1. Advanced Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of inspection and certification processes, a general working knowledge of various aircraft, engines, and components, and familiarity with pertinent FARs and technical reference materials.

  2. FAR Part 145 Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of FAR Part 145 and associated guidance materials, Part 43, Part 91, Part 121, and Part 135 as these parts apply to work accomplished under the repair station certification.

  3. Strong Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively prioritize tasks.

  4. Computer Skills: Strong computer skills, proficient with Microsoft Word, and minimum 20 WPM typing speed.

  5. Language Skills: Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
