Senior Asset Trader Job Description

Our client, a leading international Independent Power Producer (IPP), is seeking a highly skilled Senior Asset Trader to optimize, commercialize, and expand their North American generation assets. The ideal candidate will be involved in the entire project lifecycle, from optimization to strategic bidding and dispatch, dynamic hedging, and risk management.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement hedging and optimization strategies for the merchant fleet of renewable assets.
  • Analyze grid operations, congestion, power flows, weather, generation, and transmission outages to inform forward views.
  • Support new project pipeline and M&A goals by assessing merchant and structured offtake opportunities to create the best risk-adjusted return profile.
  • Collaborate with junior traders to create daily optimization plans, execute bidding strategies, and schedule power.
  • Execute trades through various market channels, including bilateral, exchanges, and OTC brokers.
  • Review portfolio exposures, such as intermittency and basis risk, to suggest operational and hedging strategies to mitigate market exposure.
  • Consult with third-party providers to deploy optimization strategies for energy storage portfolios.
  • Participate in cross-department projects to advance execution and operational capabilities of the Power Marketing function.
  • Develop innovative structured origination products, including block clean energy offtake and co-location opportunities.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Physics, Mathematics, Business, or Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7-10 years of industry experience, with at least 2 years in a similar role at an IPP, Utility, or Energy Company, focusing on renewable and dispatchable energy assets.
  • Proven track record in optimization strategies for wind, solar, and energy storage facilities.
