Job Summary

Cayuga Health System is seeking a skilled Psychiatric Technician to join our team. As a Psychiatric Technician, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to patients with severe developmental disabilities, those undergoing rehabilitation for drug and alcohol addiction, and individuals with illnesses that make them disoriented, uncooperative, or violent.

Key Responsibilities
  • Observe patients' behavior, listen to their concerns, and record their condition
  • Assist with admitting and discharging patients
  • Monitor patients' vital signs, such as blood pressure
  • Help patients with activities of daily living, including eating and bathing
  • Assist in restraining patients who may become physically violent
  • Share observations with the treatment team, including the Unit Manager, Team Leader, and other team members as appropriate
Requirements
  • Associate's degree in Psychology or equivalent experience
  • Successful completion of TCI within three months of hire
  • BLS certification required
  • Three years' experience in a mental health field required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or five years' experience preferred
Physical Requirements

The ideal candidate will have the ability to interact appropriately with patients, peers, staff, and outside customers/agencies. They will also be able to perform long periods of standing, walking, bending, and stretching, and be able to change body position and motion quickly. Additionally, they will be able to lift and assist in lifting, utilizing appropriate body mechanics, without weight restriction.

The candidate will also be able to participate as a member of the team trained to physically subdue and restrain violent persons of all sizes and strength. This activity includes, but is not limited to, lifting, holding, straining, and running.

Location and Travel Requirements

This position is located at Cayuga Medical Center, 101 Dates Drive, Ithaca, NY 14850. The shift is overnight, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM.

Pay Range Disclosure

The hourly pay range for this position is $18.50 to $25.00.
