Work Environment: Avenel, NJ

Schedule: This position involves part-time evening shifts from 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM. The schedule consists of three full days one week and two full days the next, including every other weekend and holiday.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver direct and indirect nursing care at an Adult Diagnostic Treatment Center, addressing the physiological, psychosocial, and emotional needs of inmate-patients, including adults and geriatrics.
  • Conduct assessments in various settings, including initial intake, healthcare units, and emergency situations.
  • Effectively communicate assessment findings both verbally and in writing.
  • Develop nursing care plans based on identified patient needs.
  • Administer nursing and medical care orders safely and efficiently.
  • Document nursing and medically directed care in line with institutional policies.
  • Provide education to inmates as a fundamental aspect of patient care.
  • Evaluate inmate-patient responses to healthcare and make necessary referrals.
  • As a team leader or charge nurse, delegate responsibilities to other healthcare team members based on their skills and knowledge.
  • Assist physicians in minor medical and surgical procedures.
  • Identify patient-centered goals and implement interventions for identified issues.
Qualifications:
  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing with a valid license to practice in New Jersey.
  • Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) or equivalent preferred.
  • At least one year of nursing experience in a clinical or hospital environment.
  • Experience in a correctional setting is preferred.
  • CPR Certification is required.
  • A valid Driver's License and reliable transportation are necessary.
  • Willingness to work mandatory overtime and adapt to emergency shift changes.
  • Must comply with all security regulations and procedures of the NJ Department of Corrections.
Physical Requirements: Candidates must be physically capable of performing CPR for a minimum of 10 minutes and assisting in lifting patients weighing up to 50 pounds. Proficiency in typing, clear communication, and the ability to work at various computer workstations is essential. The role may require travel within the state and adherence to Universal Precautions and Safety Protocols.
